Safrina’s Birth Story
At around 30 weeks, I found out my baby was breech. I tried all the recommended tricks to encourage her to turn, but she seemed perfectly content staying as she was. As the weeks passed, it became clear that she wasn’t planning on flipping, so I was recommended an elective C Section.
I won’t lie; at first, I felt a bit nervous about the idea. I’d hoped for a more “traditional” birth and wasn’t sure what to expect. Thankfully, Mariah talked me through everything that would happen. She was calm, clear, and reassuring. By the time my C section date arrived, I felt confident and prepared. I knew exactly what to expect, which made a world of difference.
I can honestly say my C section experience was wonderful. The theatre team was incredible; they were warm, professional, and made me feel completely at ease. My aftercare was also exceptional. I felt so well looked after throughout the whole process.
Recovery, of course, wasn’t a walk in the park—it was painful at times, but manageable. I took things slow, listened to my body, and was pleasantly surprised to find myself feeling back to normal much sooner than I’d expected. The guidance I’d read online suggested a longer recovery, but I was up and about well before then.
If I had to point out one downside, it would be this: I didn’t get to experience labour. I still wonder what it’s like to deliver a baby when they’re ready, using my own effort to bring them into the world. That said, if that aspect of birth weren’t so important to me, I wouldn’t hesitate to opt for a C section again in the future.
Overall, while it wasn’t the birth I’d initially envisioned, it was the perfect one for my breech baby and me. She arrived safely, and I felt supported every step of the way. For that, I’m truly grateful.
